Tuning a PID controller mainly depends on the situation you are dealing with. There are no set rules on how to approach it. There is no “one-size” fits all tuning method, but mainly tuning guidelines that you should follow.
For example, if you want to reduce the rise time, you can increase the P-gain (Kp).
On the other hand, if you want to improve the stability and decrease overshoot, then a good idea is to increase the D-gain (Kd).
